Morel Breakfast

Today, we had the mushroom season opener, the annual Morel Breakfast.
As usual, great reunions, great food - and great weather too! It turns out, Howard Goldstein and Mimi Calhoun have been offering the club this treat for 20 years now. To commemorate the occasion they were presented with an artwork by Maggie Val.
The local curmudgeon littered the trees along the orchard with cardboard "No Parking- Tow Away" signs. They must've gotten up early in the morning to put them up, considering yesterday's rain. A phone call from Paul to the local police cleared things up. One club member proposed we hang up signs "No ugly architecture" as the Mac Mansions in the area are now painfully atrocious. Instead, we forged our way into the orchards.
It was clear from the lack of bramble, flower on the apple trees that we were at the wrong time there - so no one got too surprised at the complete lack of morels. However things were found - such as jelly fungus, witch's butter, ramps, watercress, 2 turtles a pair of antlers and a few golf balls.
It was a beautiful day and a good time was had by all. Let's hope next week's walk will yield more finds. (Photos click to larger size)
