The kids in Maya's class had a little play at the community meeting for Earth Day. After that we got to hear them read their "How TO" books - Maya's was on apple shells - and we made some for everyone. The rest of the photos are here

Midsummer Night's Dream

Another - unknown to us- children theater company - had the ambition to put on Shakespeare, for toddlers, in a playground in Prospect Park. Big fans of Shakespeare in the Park from our NY Classic theater experiences, and of Prospect Park, Maya and I went. The average age illustrated by one of the audience members in this photo. The abridged version of the play was fun and inventive - using muppets for Puck & the fairies, throwing them around to show their flying. There was a puppet making workshop on a statue after the play.More photos from both plays here

DANDELIONS (Paperback Players)

Yesterday, a children theater company that we love very much was performing in Madison Square Park so we went. It's a good thing we had already seen this year's play, because the noises (babysitters loud talk, jackhammers, babies crying) were drowning half of the sound. Still, it was fun!
Can you spot Maya and Victor in the crowd? I of course, had a better spot, having brought my trusty folding chir with me - but had to do battle with babysitters who promised to "spank" me if I ask them to be quiet again !

Only in New York

While Victor went on a mushroom walk, Maya and I went to a street fair - got a puppy puppet that attracted the neighborhood dogs, then went to Central Park. Maya had a Shakespeare workshop with NY Classical theater, we had a picnic and saw a roving Shakespeare play, Love's Labors Lost (you had to run around to catch the next scene)"We guarantee best seats to the fastest of you" 9for the duration of a scene that is) Of course, maya amused herself in getting there first and I got seats too - it was a record numbers crowd as these last photos from the theater website show More photos here

Puppet making & play workshop

Thanks to Bubbie's diligent finding of everything fun to do in NYC,Maya and I had a great fun today! It seems Jim Henson company (they of the Muppets fame) were sponsoring this puppet making workshop - that turned out was a preparation for a play to take place tomorrow. Maya and I built some bees (plus a surprise for Daddy for Father's Day) and rehearsed tomorrow's show

Memorial Day weekend - play, garden party

On Saturday Maya donned the firefly costume again for an encore of the dance from the Uncle Wiggly play as part of an all weekend theater event.
On Sunday we had the traditional memorial Day barbecue in the garden - although - because of those involved, it became more of a song and dance festival. After hours of fun, we cleaned up, Maya poured water on the barbecue and we went home.There are more photos of the party here

Ballet Hispanico

Today the 3rd and 4th grades had their Ballet Hispanico performance. It was an amazing show with the usual energy and colorful costumes. Except this year, their dances had stories to go with them, and we were treated to the story and the making of. It was amazing!
