Odds and ends

My morning glories finally bloomed! The gogosari from Cati's seeds are growing very fast. Finding shoes to fit Maya was eventful enough to merit a photo! And I discovered Maya's school is inhavited by vampires (larger size will show it)

Also, on Saturday, we went to Governeur's island

This little island between Manhattan and Brooklyn - that had a military base on it since the civil war years. A few years ago, the feds sold it to NYC for $1 and the city finally decided to use it. There's an hourly ferry service to it (20 minutes wait to get on it, 3 minutes ride), and there are events going on - most notably an Odetta concert last Saturday

11th anniversary mushroom walk

Under protest I allowed myself to be schlepped on the DePew mushroom walk on a day with temperatures in mid 90s. I only gave in because it was on this walk, 11 years ago that Victor and I met (how comes we skipped the 10th???)
Not many mushrooms found - if you don'y count the many ganodermas - here's the gano now, drawn on the mushroom derma (upper right)...ID session and guests...More photos here

Summer Solstice Garden Party

On a picture perfect summer day, lots of us - big and small celebrated the start of the summer in the garden. We wrote our wishes on a balloon that we let fly, we played music, played, schmoozed around. More photos here

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers!

My Mothers Day started a day in advance (as Maya went to a sleep-over)
So this morning I was presented with a "Queen Bee" card, a dark chocolate truffle hot cocoa canister, a little book of children's essays "My mom is the best mom" and a little kitchen witch - complete with a little book about magical foods and "Like Water for Chocolate".
And then, at the science fair, she potted a flower for me and decorated the pot.
