In the garden

Today I found the centerpiece of my plot: the coveted Angelface!
As I planted them, I took in some other sights from the garden - love birds, flowers while Maya drew inspiration for a story she is putting on paper right now just by looking at a bird bath...

How I (we) spent last weekend

On Saturday we gave morels another try. It was a nice outing on a gorgeous day and a few tiny ones were found (one even by me).We cooked it and ate it with grand ceremony (really, a song and dance created just for it!:"Morel. Morel/I love you more than words can tell....")
We then returned to the garden where the plants y junk sale was going on and Maya got to play with Zoe, Stella - and of course, Dixie the dog.
On Sunday Maya got to spend most of the day with Mae - riding their bicycles, running around etc

Gardening

After the morel hunting, we went in the garden - planted some gogosar seedlings,Maya practiced her jump roping, petted Dixie and helped Bob with those bricks and bottles floor arrangements (child labor)
Also, is Pasnickety the squirrel remodeling Tweet Acres - giving it a barn door? Birds don't seem to do this kind of thing...

Morel Breakfast

Today, we had the mushroom season opener, the annual Morel Breakfast.
As usual, great reunions, great food - and great weather too! It turns out, Howard Goldstein and Mimi Calhoun have been offering the club this treat for 20 years now. To commemorate the occasion they were presented with an artwork by Maggie Val.
The local curmudgeon littered the trees along the orchard with cardboard "No Parking- Tow Away" signs. They must've gotten up early in the morning to put them up, considering yesterday's rain. A phone call from Paul to the local police cleared things up. One club member proposed we hang up signs "No ugly architecture" as the Mac Mansions in the area are now painfully atrocious. Instead, we forged our way into the orchards.
It was clear from the lack of bramble, flower on the apple trees that we were at the wrong time there - so no one got too surprised at the complete lack of morels. However things were found - such as jelly fungus, witch's butter, ramps, watercress, 2 turtles a pair of antlers and a few golf balls.
It was a beautiful day and a good time was had by all. Let's hope next week's walk will yield more finds. (Photos click to larger size)

56th Anniversary celebration

Erica was in town, so we went to our one and only vegan Chinese restaurant in Chinatown (that we all love, and where we are treated as the best customers we are). We ate. Maya squeed at the sight of the mango pudding desert and in the end she read our fortunes from the cookies. It was also time for the annual Chinese slippers buying for the annual Ballet Hispanico rehearsals and show.
